Social Consciousness
At Paperarc we are all about diversity and inclusion, from the inside out. Within our business we aim to create as diverse a team as possible, and we do that through our hiring strategy and by providing a work environment that uses the latest in digital technology, enabling us to work productively from anywhere. We all have our own flexible working arrangement so that we can have a healthy work-life balance that supports ours, and our families, wellbeing.
Paperarc has a commitment to donate 1% of our profits annually to charities that aim to reduce inequality in the workforce. We are currently donating to “Fitted For Work”, an organisation that helps women, gender diverse and non-binary job-seekers return to work.
We continuously monitor our social and environmental performance through annual B-Corp Impact Assessments, and have a long term aim of becoming a certified B-Corp Organisation in the future.
Recognition of Country
Our main office is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We work on projects all over Victoria that have different traditional owners, each with their own culture, language and laws. We aim to identify the traditional owners for each of our projects and acknowledge them as a part of our commitment to appreciate and recognise Victoria’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
In order to contribute to national reconciliation in our own small way, Paperarc is currently working on our Reconciliation Action Plan which we aim to release by the end of this year.
Universal Design
The principals of universal design provide us with a framework for ensuring that each one of our designs contributes to making the world a more inclusive and equitable place.
We always consider a very diverse range of users when we design, from children to the elderly, to people with disabilities or any other temporary or permanent limitation.
One example of this is our experience with the Changing Places program, which makes public toilets, that so many of us take for granted, available for those with different needs.
We also love designing education facilities, because it allows us to look at the world through a students eyes and consider how we can support them through our designs, to be safe, to learn, and to have fun.
Environmental Consciousness
We are excited about the rapid advances in environmentally sustainable design in the Victorian construction industry.
We aim to measure our carbon footprint and go Carbon Neutral by 2026.
We advocate and educate our clients on the correct use of various Sustainable Rating Tools that might be appropriate for their projects, including GreenStar, BESS, NatHERS and Passivhaus.
By taking seemingly small steps to bring down our global greenhouse gas emissions within our practice and through our work as Architects and Designers, we aim to be a positive example to other practices and to our clients.
OH&S
We are committed to producing designs that consider workplace health and safety from all possible angles. When working with us, we will implement our Safety-In-Design processes to ensure that we listen and consult, design and review the documentation with best-practice OH&S in mind.
As a business that cares about worker safety and wellbeing, we always keep our OH&S policies and procedures up to date through the Worksafe Victoria OH&S Essentials Program, and improve our systems through weekly reviews and annual audits.
Quality Assurance
We have a detailed office Quality Assurance System that ensures consistency and accuracy across all our projects.
The QA system covers all aspects of how we work from new staff onboarding, continued professional development, project submissions, project management, coordination, documentation, peer reviews and construction.
Through this system, we strive to provide a high value and reliable service to all our clients regardless of the size of the project.
We are aiming for ISO 9001 Certification in the future.
